Frosinone thrash Lecce 5-1 as Daniel Birligea scores twice in Serie A rout

Frosinone, Italy — Frosinone produced an outstanding attacking display to defeat Lecce 5-1 at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Thursday, 29 October 2026, strengthening their impressive start to the Serie A campaign.

Matteo Cichella, Giacomo Calò, Antonio Raimondo and Daniel Birligea were on target for the hosts, with Birligea scoring twice. Joel Monteiro grabbed Lecce’s consolation goal as Frosinone secured their third consecutive league match with at least four goals.

The result lifted Frosinone to sixth in the table with 17 points from 10 matches, while Lecce suffered their fourth defeat in five games.

Cichella and Calò put Frosinone in control

Lecce initially threatened to take the lead when Joel Monteiro tested Lorenzo Palmisani with an effort from the edge of the penalty area. The Frosinone goalkeeper reacted well to turn the attempt away.

The hosts gradually took control and opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Farès Ghedjemis supplied the pass for Matteo Cichella, who finished first-time from inside the box to register his first Serie A goal.

Frosinone continued to push for a second, with Giorgi Kvernadze coming close before Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone made an important save.

The home side eventually doubled their advantage through Giacomo Calò, who converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time to give Frosinone a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.

Raimondo and Birligea extend the advantage

Frosinone maintained their attacking intensity after the restart, forcing Falcone into further saves as Lecce struggled to contain the hosts.

The third goal arrived in the 59th minute. Kvernadze combined with Antonio Raimondo, who finished the move to make it 3-0.

Daniel Birligea then made an immediate impact after coming off the bench. The forward found the net in the 72nd minute, with VAR confirming the goal after an initial offside flag.

Lecce managed to reduce the deficit in the 82nd minute. Olaf Gorter won possession and initiated a counter-attack before Monteiro curled a right-footed finish into the far corner.

However, Frosinone had the final say. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Kvernadze delivered the ball across the penalty area and Birligea turned it home to complete his brace and seal a convincing 5-1 victory.

Frosinone continue remarkable scoring run

The victory took Frosinone to 17 points after 10 league matches, leaving them just one point behind AC Milan at the time. The newly promoted side had scored 13 goals across their previous three league outings, underlining their impressive attacking form.

For Lecce, the defeat represented another setback after their 2-0 loss to Juventus in their previous league match. They will need a response to halt a run of four defeats in their last five matches.
