Flamingos arrive in Morocco ahead of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

Casablanca, Morocco — Nigeria’s Flamingos have arrived in Morocco ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, with the team now entering the final phase of preparations for their opening Group B fixture against Poland.

The Nigerian delegation landed at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca on Wednesday, October 7, before settling into their hotel as they began preparations for the global tournament.

Busari takes 21-player squad to Morocco

Head coach Akeem Busari has selected a 21-player squad for Nigeria's World Cup campaign, led by captain Harmony Chidi.

The squad includes three goalkeepers, seven defenders, five midfielders and six forwards, with several players bringing valuable experience from previous international competitions.

The Flamingos arrive in Morocco after an impressive regional campaign in which they won the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup, strengthening their preparations for the World Cup.

Poland await in Nigeria’s opening match

Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside Poland, Puerto Rico and Korea DPR.

The Flamingos will begin their campaign against Poland on Saturday, October 17, at the Women’s Football Complex in Rabat, with kick-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m. local time.

Their remaining group fixtures are:

• Nigeria: vs Puerto Rico — October 20, 6:00 p.m.

• Nigeria: vs Korea DPR — October 23, 3:00 p.m.

Both matches will also be played at the Women’s Football Complex in Rabat.

Flamingos targeting another strong World Cup run

Nigeria will be hoping to improve on their third-place finish at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which remains the team’s best result in the competition.

The 2026 tournament will feature 24 teams, with Nigeria facing a challenging group that includes Korea DPR, who enter the competition as defending champions.

With the Flamingos now safely in Morocco, Busari and his technical crew have the opportunity to fine-tune the team ahead of their opening encounter with Poland.

The focus will now shift towards acclimatisation, tactical preparations and ensuring the players are ready for the demands of the World Cup stage.

For Nigeria, the journey to another memorable global campaign officially enters its final stage in Morocco.
