Mbappé struck in the 41st minute to give Madrid the lead before Raphinha equalised for Barcelona in the 61st minute. Just when the hosts appeared to be pushing towards a comeback victory, the French forward delivered again in the 87th minute to seal all three points for the visitors.
The result ended Barcelona’s perfect start to the league campaign and gave Madrid a significant psychological boost in the race for the Spanish title.
Mbappé Gives Real Madrid the First-Half Advantage
Barcelona began the contest looking to impose their possession-based approach, but Madrid remained dangerous on the counterattack and looked to exploit spaces behind the home defence.
The breakthrough arrived in the 41st minute. Yan Diomande’s delivery into the penalty area took a deflection off Mbappé and found its way into the net, giving Madrid a 1–0 advantage.
Barcelona had opportunities to respond before the interval, but the home side failed to make the most of its chances. Lamine Yamal missed a promising opportunity as Madrid went into half-time with the lead.
Raphinha Restores Parity for Barcelona
Barcelona returned from the break with greater urgency and gradually increased the pressure on Madrid.
Their persistence paid off in the 61st minute when Pedri supplied Raphinha, who finished confidently to bring the score to 1–1 and ignite hopes of a home comeback.
The equaliser changed the momentum of the match. Barcelona pushed forward in search of a second goal, while Madrid relied on quick transitions and the threat of Mbappé to punish defensive mistakes.
Lunin also produced important saves to keep Madrid level as Barcelona looked for a winner.
Mbappé Strikes Again to Silence Camp Nou
With the match approaching its conclusion, Madrid found the decisive breakthrough.
In the 87th minute, Eduardo Camavinga helped launch a counterattack after Barcelona lost possession. He then supplied Mbappé, who finished into an unguarded net to restore Madrid’s lead and complete his brace.
Barcelona were unable to find another equaliser, and Madrid held on for a crucial away victory.
The result underlined Mbappé’s importance to Madrid’s title ambitions, with the French forward continuing to deliver in a fixture where individual quality can decide the outcome.
What the Result Means for the LaLiga Title Race
The victory moved Real Madrid to within three points of Barcelona at the top of the table, keeping the pressure on the Catalan side despite their continued position as league leaders. Atlético Madrid also remain firmly involved in the title race.
For Mourinho, the result represented a major success on his return to El Clásico, while Barcelona were left to reflect on missed chances and defensive lapses that proved costly.
Madrid will take confidence from their ability to withstand Barcelona’s second-half pressure and strike decisively when the opportunity arrived.
Barcelona, meanwhile, must respond quickly to ensure that one defeat does not become the beginning of a damaging run of results.
