Claude Le Roy names 25-man Congo squad for AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Comoros

Brazzaville, Congo — Republic of the Congo head coach Claude Le Roy has announced a 25-man squad for the country's crucial double-header against Comoros in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The experienced French tactician has trimmed his provisional 35-man selection to 25 players ahead of the two Group G encounters scheduled for November 13 and 17.

The Red Devils will travel to face Comoros at the Stade Malouzini on November 13 before hosting the island nation at the Stade Alphonse-Massamba-Débat in Brazzaville four days later.

Fernandez, Mouanga and Mboula earn attention

Defender Nehemiah Fernandez of AS Nancy, Kasımpaşa centre-back Kevin Mouanga and forward Jordi Mboula, who plays for Greece's AE Kifisia, are among the notable names in the selection.

Morgan Poaty of Swiss club Lausanne-Sport is another notable inclusion, having earned a place in the final squad despite not featuring in the initial provisional selection.

However, OGC Nice defender Niels Nkounkou has been left out after appearing in the extended list.

Experienced forward Thievy Bifouma, Guy Mbenza and goalkeeper Trey Vimalin are also included.

Congo under pressure in Group G

Congo head into the November fixtures under pressure after collecting just one point from their opening two qualifying matches.

Le Roy's side began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Namibia before playing out a 1-1 draw with Cameroon. Those results have left the Red Devils at the bottom of Group G.

Cameroon currently lead the group with four points, while Comoros and Namibia have three points each. Congo have one point.

The double-header therefore represents an important opportunity for Le Roy's team to revive their qualification campaign and improve their chances of reaching the 2027 AFCON finals.
