Chad partners with LALIGA to drive football development and professionalisation

Chad has entered into a strategic partnership with LALIGA aimed at strengthening the foundations of football development and accelerating the professionalisation of the sport in the country.

The multi-year consultancy agreement was formalised in Madrid on Thursday, 1 October 2026, during a visit by Chad’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Naïr Abakar, to LALIGA headquarters. The agreement was signed with LALIGA president Javier Tebas.

The partnership will combine LALIGA’s experience and methodology with local knowledge and capabilities, with particular emphasis on youth talent identification and development, training and the strengthening of Chadian football structures.

Abakar said Chad’s ambition was to provide young players with the right environment to develop, help clubs grow and make the country’s domestic league more competitive.

The minister said the partnership would combine LALIGA’s expertise in professional football with the knowledge and commitment of Chad’s football community, with the aim of producing lasting benefits for players, coaches and clubs.

Tebas said LALIGA was pleased to support Chad and would share its knowledge and methodology while working alongside local institutions and professionals.

He added that the objective was to develop knowledge, capabilities and tools that could continue to grow sustainably within Chad’s football ecosystem.

Focus on youth development and the national league

The first phase of the project will establish the foundations for the wider collaboration.

Key areas include a national talent identification campaign and the creation of a system to monitor the progress of players identified through the programme.

LALIGA will also provide technical advice on the design and structure of Chad’s future National Academy, while coaches, directors and sports managers will receive training.

Another major component will be a strategic assessment of Chad’s domestic league, followed by recommendations and a roadmap for its transformation.

Subsequent phases are expected to support the operational development of the National Academy and the implementation of recommendations for the league and clubs.

The project will also focus on transferring knowledge and skills to local professionals so that the benefits of the partnership remain within Chad’s football ecosystem.

First such LALIGA collaboration in sub-Saharan Africa

LALIGA described the initiative as an unprecedented collaboration for the organisation in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Spanish league said it has promoted more than 1,000 sports projects in 60 countries since 2015, working with football federations, leagues and clubs across different regions.

For Chad, the agreement represents a structured attempt to improve talent development, strengthen football administration and build more sustainable domestic football structures.

The partnership will therefore extend beyond player development, with LALIGA's expertise also being applied to coaching, governance, league organisation and the development of football professionals in Chad.
