Shanghai, China — French rising star Arthur Géa continued his impressive breakthrough season by defeating Czech star Jakub Menšík 7–6(4), 6–4 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Rolex Shanghai Masters on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old produced another composed performance against a top-ranked opponent, following his victory over American Ben Shelton in the previous round. His latest triumph further underlined his growing confidence on the ATP Tour.
Géa overcomes Menšík in straight sets
Géa held his nerve in a closely contested opening set, winning the tie-break 7–4 before maintaining his momentum in the second set to complete the victory in straight sets.
Menšík, ranked 15th in the world according to the ATP report, presented a significant challenge, particularly with his powerful serve. However, Géa delivered another assured display to book his place among the last eight in Shanghai.
The victory also improved Géa’s career record against top-20 opponents to four wins and one defeat.
Frenchman extends remarkable run
Géa’s progress in Shanghai is the latest chapter in an impressive run of form. According to the ATP Tour’s report, he has won 13 of his past 15 tour-level matches since July.
His back-to-back victories over Shelton and Menšík have strengthened his reputation as a player capable of challenging established names on the circuit.
Reflecting on his latest result, Géa said he was pleased to progress and described the win as a form of revenge after his US Open campaign ended at the same stage.
“I’m really happy about the result. I had a little revenge today, because at the US Open I stopped in this round,” he said, as reported by the ATP Tour.
He added that he had wanted to make a deep run in Shanghai and was pleased that his campaign was now progressing well.
Quarter-final challenge awaits
Géa will now turn his attention to the quarter-finals, where he is scheduled to face either Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz or Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, depending on the outcome of their fourth-round encounter.
Reaching the last eight represents a significant achievement for the Frenchman, who has continued to build momentum through victories over higher-ranked opponents.
With his confidence growing and his run of results attracting attention, Géa will look to maintain his form as he pursues a place in the Shanghai Masters semi-finals.
