Yoane Wissa opened the scoring in the 30th minute, capitalising on a goalkeeping error to put the Leopards ahead. The Newcastle United striker then turned provider just before half-time, setting up Samuel Moutoussamy to double the lead in first-half stoppage time.
Zimbabwe improved after the interval and pushed for a way back into the contest. Marshall Munetsi eventually reduced the deficit with a header in the 93rd minute, but it proved too late as DR Congo held on for the three points.
The result leaves the Congolese top of Group E with a maximum six points from two matches, following their earlier 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea. Zimbabwe remain on three points, level with Equatorial Guinea, while Sierra Leone are still without a point.
Wissa was the standout performer, also striking the woodwork and coming close to a hat-trick. DR Congo controlled large periods of the first half and showed resilience to protect their lead under late pressure.
The victory strengthens the Leopards’ position at the top of the group as they continue their campaign to qualify for the 2027 AFCON finals, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
