BERLIN, Germany — Promoted Schalke held Bayern Munich to a 0-0 draw on Saturday, ending the champions’ long scoring run, while SV Elversberg made it two wins from two with a 4-3 thriller at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Loris Karius produced the saves that earned Schalke their first point against Bayern since 2017. Bayern failed to score in the Bundesliga for the first time in 18 months. Harry Kane and Michael Olise started on the bench. The draw also ended Bayern’s sequence of 67 matchdays on top of the table.
Freiburg replaced them at the summit after Maximilian Eggestein scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Paderborn.
Borussia Dortmund came from 2-0 down to beat Hoffenheim 3-2. Leon Avdullahu and Tim Lemperle had the hosts in front; Serhou Guirassy, Fábio Silva and an 86th-minute own goal from A. Hajdari completed the turnaround.
Bayer Leverkusen were ruthless at home, beating Union Berlin 4-0 through Equi Fernández, Facundo Medina, Patrik Schick and Ibrahim Maza. Werder Bremen upset RB Leipzig 3-1, with Niclas Füllkrug among the scorers on his return to German football.
Elversberg’s win at Borussia-Park was the day’s most chaotic match. Gladbach led twice and were 3-1 up after Joe Scally’s goal, but Maurice Krattenmacher scored twice, including in stoppage time, after D. Mokwa and F. Keidel had dragged the newcomers level and then ahead.
