Sarah Nyarko named Player of the Match in Ghana’s 3–1 win over South Korea

Sosnowiec, Poland: Ghana captain Sarah Nyarko has been named Player of the Match after inspiring the Black Princesses to a 3–1 victory over South Korea at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Nyarko delivered a commanding performance in Ghana’s second Group C fixture, capping her display with the opening goal as the Black Princesses recovered from their disappointing defeat to Ecuador in their opening match.

The Ghana skipper broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, giving her side the breakthrough they needed after a goalless first half. Her goal sparked Ghana into life as they took control of the contest.

The Black Princesses extended their advantage shortly afterwards, before South Korea pulled a goal back. Ghana, however, remained composed and eventually restored their two-goal cushion to seal an important 3–1 victory.

The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is being staged in Poland from September 5 to 27, with 24 teams competing across six groups. The top two teams in each group, together with the four best third-placed sides, will advance to the knockout stage.

Ghana will now turn their attention to their final Group C fixture against France, knowing another positive result could determine whether the Black Princesses advance to the next round.
