Despite the team result, Chiamaka Michelle Nwankwo has been one of Nigeria’s standout individual performers in Samarkand. She has shown resilience throughout the tournament and remains a key figure for the women’s side.
Both teams now have a scheduled rest day before returning for the remaining five rounds of the 11-round Swiss-system event, which runs until 27 September.
Nigeria’s men had earlier swept New Caledonia 4–0 in Round 1 before suffering defeats to stronger opposition. Leading contributors in the open section have included Odion Aikhoje and 15-year-old Odey Goodness Ekunke.
