Levante 2-4 Barcelona: Yamal double keeps champions perfect in LaLiga

Valencia, Spain: Barcelona maintained their 100 per cent start to the 2026/27 LaLiga season after surviving a late scare to defeat Levante 4-2 at the Ciutat de València on Sunday.

Lamine Yamal once again stole the headlines, scoring twice as Barcelona claimed a fifth consecutive league victory and moved back to the top of the table with 15 points.

• Levante: Iván Romero 79', Roger Brugué 88'

• Barcelona: Xavi Espart 5', Lamine Yamal 19', 48' (pen), Karim Adeyemi 90+3'

Barcelona made a flying start when Xavi Espart opened the scoring in the fifth minute, registering his first senior goal for the club. The 19-year-old academy product continued to underline his growing importance to Hansi Flick's side.

Yamal then doubled the advantage in the 19th minute, finishing an attack created by Raphinha. The teenager's growing influence was again evident as Barcelona established a commanding position before half-time.

The visitors extended their lead shortly after the restart when Yamal converted a penalty in the 48th minute. The spot-kick was awarded after the winger was brought down following a challenge involving Levante defender Aïssa Mandi.

The decision proved controversial, with former Spanish referee Iturralde González arguing that the contact was insufficient for a penalty. Nevertheless, Yamal made no mistake from the spot to complete another double.

Levante refused to surrender. Iván Romero pulled one back in the 79th minute before Roger Brugué struck eight minutes later, reducing the deficit to 3-2 and putting Barcelona under serious pressure.

With the home side pushing for a dramatic equaliser, Barcelona finally settled the contest in stoppage time. Substitute Karim Adeyemi produced a decisive individual effort in the 93rd minute to restore the two-goal advantage and secure all three points.

The victory means Barcelona have now won all five of their LaLiga matches this season. They sit on 15 points, three ahead of Real Madrid, while their latest success further underlined their attacking strength under Flick.

Yamal was once again central to Barcelona's success. His brace continued a remarkable run of form, coming just eight days after another two-goal performance against Valencia and following his Champions League goalscoring display against Feyenoord.

Barcelona will now turn their attention to their next LaLiga fixture against Racing Santander on Wednesday, while Levante will look to respond when they face Athletic Bilbao.
