Kwasi Appiah’s Sudan Begin AFCON 2027 Qualifiers with 1-0 Win Over Ethiopia

JUBA, South Sudan — Sudan opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ethiopia on Friday.

The decisive goal arrived late in the contest when Mohamed Eisa struck in the 86th minute at Juba Stadium, securing all three points for the Falcons of Jediane.

Sudan, managed by Ghanaian coach Kwasi Appiah, showed patience and resilience against a determined Ethiopian side. The late winner rewarded their persistence in a tightly contested Group J encounter.

Appiah, who has been in charge of Sudan since September 2023, guided the team to a solid start as they look to progress in the qualifying race for the 2027 finals.

Ethiopia begin their campaign with a defeat, while Sudan take maximum points from their opening fixture. Both sides will now prepare for the next round of matches in the group.
