Gatti Header Denies Milan as Juventus Rescue 1-1 Draw

TURIN, Italy — Substitute Federico Gatti headed a stoppage-time equaliser as Juventus drew 1-1 with AC Milan at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

Alphadjo Cissé had put Milan ahead in the 68th minute, cutting inside Manuel Locatelli and shooting through Pierre Kalulu’s legs after Samuel Chukwueze’s switch of play. Gatti, sent on late, met Teun Koopmeiners’ cross in the 92nd minute to deny Rúben Amorim’s side a first win in Turin this season.

Both clubs had won their opening two Serie A matches. They remain level on seven points. Inter and Roma, who both won late on Saturday, sit above them with nine.

Juventus controlled long spells and created the clearer first-half chances. Francisco Conceição forced Mike Maignan into a save that Locatelli could not convert. Milan’s first shot on target was the goal. Guglielmo Vicario had been a spectator until Cissé struck.

Amorim’s changes worked. Chukwueze and Cissé combined for the lead. Juventus kept pressing. Gatti, who had been expected to leave in the summer, stayed and scored. Yellow cards followed for both scorers in the scramble that ended the night.

Sunday’s Derby d’Italia of the north was tight rather than open. Milan will feel they let a win slip; Juventus will feel the point was the least their territorial dominance deserved. The table after three rounds already has four unbeaten sides at the top. This fixture did not separate two of them.
