Galatasaray Edge Başakşehir 3-2 in Thriller to Stay Top of Süper Lig

ISTANBUL, Turkey — Galatasaray maintained their perfect start to the season at the top of the Süper Lig with a dramatic 3-2 away victory over Istanbul Başakşehir on Friday night.

Victor Osimhen, Lucas Torreira and a late winner from Gabriel Sara secured the three points for the league leaders in a high-intensity encounter at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 16th minute, giving Galatasaray a deserved lead after a bright start. The Nigerian striker continued his strong form in front of goal, capitalising on good build-up play to put the visitors ahead.

Başakşehir fought back after the break. Eldor Shomurodov equalised from the penalty spot in the 66th minute after a foul in the box. The hosts then took the lead in bizarre fashion when Galatasaray defender Davinson Sánchez turned the ball into his own net in the 76th minute.

The lead lasted just five minutes. Torreira restored parity in the 71st minute with a well-taken finish, assisted by Ismaël Jakobs, before the match took another twist. Başakşehir were reduced to ten men in the 79th minute when Umut Bozok was shown a straight red card.

With the numerical advantage, Galatasaray pushed for a winner. Deep into stoppage time, Gabriel Sara stepped up and converted a free-kick in the 90+1st minute to seal a hard-fought victory.

The result leaves Galatasaray top of the table with 10 points from four matches (three wins and one draw). Başakşehir remain mid-table after a mixed start to the campaign.

The win extended Galatasaray’s impressive unbeaten record against Başakşehir away from home. Coach Okan Buruk’s side showed character to come from behind twice and claim all three points in a match full of drama.

Attention now turns to the next fixture as the Yellow-Reds look to maintain their position at the summit of the Süper Lig.
