PRETORIA, South Africa — FIFA has required Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahli Saudi to submit their player and team-official lists for the 19 September match in Pretoria, in line with the 14-day rule that governs the fixture.
The game at Loftus Versfeld Stadium is the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup, the second round of the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Sundowns qualified as CAF Champions League winners. Al Ahli reached this stage by beating Auckland FC 1-0 in Jeddah, Saleh Abu Al-Shamat scoring the only goal.
The winner lifts that intercontinental trophy and advances to the FIFA Challenger Cup, where they will meet the winner of the Derby of the Americas. A path towards a later meeting with European champions remains several rounds away.
The squad deadline is administrative rather than theatrical, but it freezes the groups from which both clubs can select. Sundowns have been in domestic action through August and early September. Al Ahli, twice recent AFC Champions League winners, travel as Asian champions.
The fixture also carries a coaching subplot. Pitso Mosimane, now in charge of Sundowns after earlier spells that shaped both institutions, faces a club he previously led in Saudi Arabia. Neither dressing room will list him as an opponent on the team sheet, but the reunion is part of the match’s billing.
FIFA’s 14-day window is standard for this competition. Once the names are in, both clubs turn to preparation for a one-off night in Pretoria that decides who represents Africa and Asia in the next Intercontinental Cup round.
