The Pharaohs dominated possession — about 66 per cent — and won 10 corners to Angola’s three, but created few clear chances. Mostafa Ziko had the ball in the net in the 25th minute, only for the goal to be ruled offside.
Mahmoud Saber failed to convert from Emam Ashour’s pass inside the box after 17 minutes. Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Hany and Ziko all threatened without finding a finish. Goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir saved well just before half-time as Angola broke.
Omar Marmoush was introduced for Saber before the interval and had a late opportunity in the 90th minute but missed the target. Salah was substituted as Egypt chased a winner. Angola stayed compact, limited space and left with a valuable away point.
Pedro Bondo and Manuel Keliano were booked for the visitors. Kenya’s Peter Waweru refereed. There was no VAR.
Both teams have one point from the first matchday of their qualifying group. Egypt, seven-time African champions, will consider the result a missed opportunity at home. Angola, well organised and dangerous on the break, will be satisfied with a clean sheet in Cairo.
The Pharaohs must sharpen their finishing when qualifying resumes. Angola travel home knowing a draw against one of the continent’s strongest sides is a solid start toward the 2027 finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
