Eguavoen names Ajibade, Nnadozie and 26 others for Super Falcons’ Olympic qualifiers

Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria: Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has named a 28-player squad for Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie against Comoros, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie among the headline selections.

The squad, announced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday, also includes experienced internationals Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, Ashley Plumptre, Jennifer Echegini and Toni Payne as the Super Falcons begin their bid to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. citeturn865245search0

Eguavoen will lead the team on an interim basis as the NFF continues its search for a substantive head coach. He is supported by Christopher Danjuma, goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa and assistant coach Ayisat Yusuf. citeturn865245search1

Young talents included in 28-player squad

Several young players have also earned places in the squad, including Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Janet Akekoromowei.

The players have been instructed to report to the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday, 3 October, ahead of the two-legged encounter.

Comoros tie to be played in Nigeria

Comoros are scheduled to host the first leg on Friday, 9 October, with Nigeria hosting the return leg on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.

Although Comoros are designated as the hosts for the opening match, both fixtures will take place at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, because Comoros do not have a CAF-approved venue for international matches.

The Super Falcons received a bye into the second qualifying round, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30–0 on aggregate in the first round.

Nigeria must progress through four rounds of two-legged knockout ties to secure one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Victory over Comoros on aggregate would send the 10-time African champions into the third round, scheduled for February 2027.
