Cesc Fàbregas' side produced a confident and disciplined performance to secure one of the most impressive results of the opening Champions League matchday, with Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas, Assane Diao and Máximo Perrone all finding the net.
• Como: Martin Baturina 15', Tasos Douvikas 38', Assane Diao 54', Máximo Perrone 90'
• RB Leipzig: Andrija Maksimović 58'
Como made the perfect start when Baturina opened the scoring after 15 minutes. The Croatian midfielder was one of the standout performers of the evening and later turned provider for Douvikas, who doubled Como's advantage in the 38th minute.
Leipzig struggled to cope with Como's movement and intensity, while Nico Paz and Luis Milla controlled important areas of midfield. The hosts went into half-time two goals ahead and firmly in control.
Como continued their dominance after the interval. Assane Diao made it 3–0 in the 54th minute after being released by Paz, producing a composed finish to put the Italian side firmly in command.
Leipzig responded four minutes later when Andrija Maksimović reduced the deficit to 3–1, with Christopher Nkunku providing the assist. The visitors briefly threatened a comeback, but Como remained dangerous on the counter-attack.
The result was settled in the 90th minute when Máximo Perrone finished another Como attack, with Paz again involved in the build-up. The goal completed a memorable 4–1 victory for the Champions League newcomers.
The victory represents a remarkable moment in Como's rapid rise. The club, which were playing in Italy's fourth tier only seven years ago, have now made their first appearance in Europe's premier club competition with an emphatic victory over an established Bundesliga side.
For Leipzig and new manager Martin Demichelis, the defeat represents another difficult result after their Bundesliga loss to Werder Bremen. Como, meanwhile, have given European football an early glimpse of an ambitious project under Fàbregas.
The Italian side's next Champions League challenge will now come with considerable expectation after such an impressive opening-night performance.
