CAS Sets 8 October Hearing for Senegal Appeal over AFCON 2025 Final

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear the Senegalese Football Federation’s appeal against CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation on Thursday, 8 October, at CAS headquarters.

The sitting starts at 09:30 local time and is expected to run into the afternoon. It will be held behind closed doors. Senegal and Morocco will attend in person. CAF will be represented by lawyers. The panel is Professor Gérald Simon (France, president), Professor Luigi Fumagalli (Italy) and Professor Dr Ulrich Haas (Germany). Proceedings will be in French.

CAS said deliberations will begin after the hearing but the ruling will not be announced that day. No date has been given for the decision. Journalists covering from outside the building may contact [email protected] with a valid press card.

The FSF registered the appeal on 25 March 2026. It asks CAS to set aside CAF’s finding that Senegal forfeited the AFCON 2025 final and to restore Senegal as champions. CAF’s appeal board had awarded Morocco a 3-0 win on 17 March.

On the pitch in January, the final was goalless when a late penalty was given to Morocco after a VAR check. Senegal players left the field in protest. Brahim Díaz missed the spot-kick when they returned. Pape Gueye scored in extra time and Senegal won 1-0. CAF later treated the walk-off as a forfeit.

The parties did not agree to an expedited timetable, so the case has followed a standard CAS schedule. CAS has warned that only its own channels should be treated as official.

Whoever wins in Lausanne will settle, at sport’s highest court, who holds the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title: the side that finished the match 1-0, or the side CAF named after the forfeit.
