TRIPOLI, Libya — Libyan Premier League side Al Shomooa have confirmed the signing of Nigerian centre-back Olisa Ndah.
The 28-year-old Super Eagles international joins the club as a free agent following the end of his short-term stay with South African side Stellenbosch FC. The move marks a new chapter for the defender after five years in the South African top flight.
Ndah began his professional career in Nigeria, featuring for Remo Stars before establishing himself at Akwa United. He was part of the Akwa United side that won the Nigeria Premier Football League title in the 2020/21 season. His performances earned him a high-profile transfer to Orlando Pirates in 2021.
During his time with the Buccaneers, Ndah developed into one of the most reliable centre-backs in the Premier Soccer League. He contributed to multiple domestic cup successes, including several MTN8 and Nedbank Cup triumphs, and made over 50 league appearances for the club. Injuries disrupted his progress in later seasons, leading to a mutual termination of his contract earlier in 2026.
He subsequently joined Stellenbosch on a short-term deal but made limited appearances before becoming a free agent at the end of the campaign. Interest from Mamelodi Sundowns was reported, though talks ultimately stalled.
The switch to Al Shomooa ends Ndah’s chapter in South African football and presents him with a fresh challenge in North Africa. The Libyan Premier League has attracted several high-profile African players in recent windows, and Ndah’s experience and physical presence are expected to strengthen the club’s defensive options.
A composed and aerial-strong centre-back, Ndah has earned senior caps for the Nigeria national team and was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. At 28, he remains in his prime and will be looking to regain consistent playing time and rediscover his best form.
The confirmation of his arrival provides Al Shomooa with a proven defender as they prepare for the new season in the Libyan top flight. For Ndah, the move represents an opportunity to restart his career in a new environment after a period of uncertainty.
