Yanga Begin Title Defence with Comfortable Win Over Namungo

LINDI, Tanzania — Defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) started their Tanzania Premier League title defence with a convincing 3-1 victory over Namungo FC at Majaliwa Stadium on Saturday.

The champions controlled proceedings and sealed the three points with a clinical second-half display.

Second-Half Surge

The first half ended goalless as Yanga dominated possession but struggled to break down a stubborn Namungo defence.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 69th minute when Boka opened the scoring for the visitors. Three minutes later, Max Nzengeli doubled the lead, putting Yanga firmly in control.

Namungo pulled a goal back in the 76th minute through Lukindo, briefly raising hopes of a comeback. However, any hopes of a recovery were extinguished late on when Peter Shalulile added a third for Yanga in the 89th minute to confirm the win.

Strong Start for the Champions

The result gives Young Africans a perfect start to the new campaign as they look to retain their Premier League crown. Namungo, meanwhile, will look to bounce back quickly after suffering defeat in their opening fixture.

Yanga’s clinical finishing in the second half proved the difference in a match they largely dominated.
