Polisi Tanzania and Azam FC Share Spoils in Opening-Day Draw

MOROGORO, Tanzania — Polisi Tanzania and Azam FC played out a 1-1 draw in their Tanzania Premier League encounter at Jamhuri Stadium on Saturday.

Both goals came from the penalty spot in a tightly contested second half, with the points shared at the end of an even contest.

Second-Half Drama

The first half produced few clear-cut opportunities as both sides cancelled each other out, heading into the break locked at 0-0.

Azam FC broke the deadlock in the 75th minute when A. Suleiman converted from the penalty spot to give the visitors the lead.

Polisi Tanzania refused to accept defeat and were rewarded late in the game. In the 89th minute, A. Jabiri stepped up to convert another penalty, levelling the scores and securing a valuable point for the home side.

Early Season Point

The result leaves both teams with one point from their opening fixture of the new Tanzania Premier League campaign. Azam FC, traditionally one of the stronger sides in the competition, will feel they dropped two points after taking the lead, while Polisi Tanzania will be satisfied with a hard-earned draw against a higher-profile opponent.

Attention now turns to the next round of fixtures as the domestic season continues to take shape.
