His impressive displays against major sides including Spain, Uruguay and Argentina helped the Blue Sharks reach the knockout stages and earned him global recognition. At his unveiling, Colo-Colo confirmed that the goalkeeper will continue to use the nickname “Vozinha” on his shirt. Chilean football regulations normally require players to display their legal surnames, but the club secured special permission from the national federation after other clubs agreed to the exception.
The nickname, which means “little grandmother” in Portuguese, was given to him as a child. Vozinha described the move as a clear decision, stating that despite spending much of his career at smaller clubs, he had always seen himself as a player for a big team.
