South Africa Edge Burkina Faso 1-0 to Reach WAFCON Quarter-Finals

CASABLANCA, Morocco — Thembi Kgatlana scored the only goal of the game as South Africa defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in their decisive 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Group B encounter on Tuesday night.

The victory at the Moulay Rachid Stadium secured Banyana Banyana’s place in the quarter-finals.

Kgatlana found the net in the 21st minute to give Desiree Ellis’ side a slender lead that they defended resolutely for the remainder of the match. Burkina Faso pushed for an equaliser but were unable to break down a disciplined South African defence.
