SAFA’s National Executive Committee endorsed Mosimane during an extraordinary meeting held at SAFA House on Saturday, clearing the way for the highly decorated coach to return to the Bafana Bafana dugout.
Mosimane Set for Return
SAFA President Danny Jordaan confirmed the decision, stating that while the NEC had approved Mosimane’s appointment, some administrative details still needed to be finalised.
“The NEC has approved the appointment of coach Pitso to Bafana Bafana, but we still need to tie up some loose ends. We will make a formal announcement of the coach next week,” Jordaan said.
Mosimane previously coached Bafana Bafana between 2010 and 2012 and has since established himself as one of Africa’s most successful managers, winning multiple CAF Champions League titles with Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly.
Regragui Among Applicants
Sources indicate that Regragui, who led Morocco to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and later guided the Atlas Lions to AFCON glory on home soil, submitted an application for the vacant position following Hugo Broos’ departure.
Despite the high-profile interest, SAFA opted to bring back the experienced South African coach.
Next Steps
Mosimane is expected to be formally unveiled in the coming days, with his immediate focus set to be the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Bafana Bafana are due to begin their qualifying campaign next month.
