DURBAN, South Africa — Orlando Pirates produced a clinical second-half display to defeat Chippa United 3-0 at Kings Park Stadium on Sunday, moving level on points with Kaizer Chiefs at the summit of the Betway Premiership.
Goals from Ghampani Lungu, Lebone Seema and Daniel Msendami sealed a convincing away victory for the Buccaneers, who remained patient before striking three times after the break.
Goalless First Half
The opening 45 minutes were tightly contested, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. Pirates controlled much of the possession but found Chippa United well organised defensively. The two teams headed into the interval locked at 0-0 after a physical and intense opening period that saw yellow cards issued to players from both sides.
Clinical Second-Half Display
Pirates raised their intensity after the restart and broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. Ghampani Lungu found the net to give the visitors a deserved lead, rewarding their growing dominance.
Just four minutes later, the Buccaneers doubled their advantage. Lebone Seema rose highest inside the box to power home a header from a corner, effectively putting the game beyond Chippa United’s reach.
The result was confirmed late on when Daniel Msendami added a third goal in the 87th minute, completing a professional performance and ensuring a clean-sheet triumph.
Top of the Table
The three points lift Orlando Pirates level with Kaizer Chiefs on seven points at the top of the Betway Premiership standings. The Buccaneers have now collected maximum points from their away fixture and will take significant confidence from the manner of the victory.
Chippa United, meanwhile, remain near the lower end of the table and will look to regroup quickly after a difficult afternoon against one of the league’s strongest sides.
Pirates’ ability to control the second half and convert their chances underlined their title credentials as the early season race intensifies.
