NPFL Pre-Season Tournament: Matchday 1 Results from New Jos Stadium

JOS, Nigeria — The NPFL Pre-Season Tournament got under way on Wednesday with two matches at the New Jos Stadium.

Matchday 1 Results – Wednesday, 19 August 2026

• Rivers United 0-1 Plateau United
• El-Kanemi Warriors 0-1 Mighty Jets

Plateau United claimed a narrow victory over Rivers United, while Mighty Jets edged El-Kanemi Warriors by the same scoreline.

The tournament has been designed to help clubs set to compete in next season’s CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup sharpen their preparations for continental action. Plateau United and Mighty Jets entered the competition as wild-card teams, joining the sides with confirmed African commitments.

Both results provided useful competitive minutes as the participating clubs continue their build-up to the new NPFL season and, for some, the challenges of continental football. Further matches are expected in the coming days as the pre-season programme continues in Jos.
