US Soccer announced on Monday that the Argentine has signed an extension that will keep him in charge until July 2030. The deal ensures continuity for the programme following the 2026 World Cup on home soil, where the USMNT reached the last 16 before a 4-1 defeat to Belgium.
Long-Term Commitment After Home World Cup
Pochettino took charge of the USMNT in September 2024 on an initial deal that ran through the 2026 tournament. His new agreement, described as a four-year extension, includes an expanded role in which he and his staff will contribute to the broader development of the national team pathway, youth soccer, coaching education and collaboration with professional leagues.
Financial details of the new contract have not been disclosed, though Pochettino is expected to receive an increase on the approximately $6 million annual salary he earned under his previous deal — already the highest paid to a USMNT head coach.
Building Towards 2030
The decision provides stability as the United States looks ahead to the next World Cup cycle. Under Pochettino, the team produced strong group-stage performances at the 2026 finals, including a memorable 4-1 victory over Paraguay, before their knockout exit.
“It has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the men’s national team program even stronger,” Pochettino said in the US Soccer announcement. “The passion we experienced from the fans throughout the World Cup only strengthened our belief in what is possible here.”
The new deal positions Pochettino to lead the USMNT through the next major competitions and into the 2030 World Cup as the federation seeks sustained progress on the global stage.
