LECCE, Italy — Italian Serie A side US Lecce have formally reported Zambian winger Lameck Banda to FIFA after the player failed to report for pre-season training despite remaining under contract with the club.
In a strongly worded letter, Lecce have also copied the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The Italian club are demanding $12 million in compensation from Libyan side Al Swehli, who are reportedly in advanced talks with the player.
Banda, who has been a key figure for Lecce in recent seasons, is understood to have not reported back for the start of pre-season preparations. The club view his absence as a clear breach of contract and have moved to protect their interests through official channels.
The demand for compensation from Al Swehli underscores Lecce’s determination to recover what they believe is a significant financial loss should the player complete a move to Libya without their agreement.
The case now sits with FIFA, while FAZ and CAF have been notified of the dispute. Further developments are expected as the governing bodies review the complaint.
