Kristjan Čeh Claims European Discus Title with Championship Record

BIRMINGHAM, England — Slovenia’s Kristjan Čeh produced a dominant performance to win gold in the men’s discus throw at the European Championships.

Čeh launched a massive 72.51m on his third attempt to secure the title and set a new championship record. The Slovenian went beyond the 70-metre mark four times during a high-quality final, underlining his superiority on the day.

Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna had opened the competition by breaking the championship record with his first-round throw. Čeh responded by taking the record from him and then improved it further with his winning effort of 72.51m.

Alekna claimed silver with a best of 69.89m, while Germany’s Henrik Janssen took bronze with a season’s best of 69.53m.

The final showcased the exceptional standard of European discus throwing, with Čeh’s consistent long throws proving decisive. The victory adds another major title to the Slovenian’s growing collection and confirms his status among the world’s leading throwers.
