CASABLANCA, Morocco — Ghana produced a strong second-half comeback to defeat Ivory Coast 2-1 in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup play-off and secure a place in the inter-confederation qualifiers.
The Black Queens fell behind early when Inès Konan converted a penalty in the fourth minute after a VAR review. Ivory Coast took the lead at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium and controlled much of the first half.
Ghana responded after the break. Princess Marfo equalised in the 59th minute with a well-taken header from a corner, restoring parity and shifting the momentum.
The turnaround was completed in the 72nd minute when Josephine Bonsu scored from the penalty spot after another VAR intervention awarded the Black Queens a spot-kick for handball. Bonsu stayed composed to give Ghana the lead.
Ivory Coast pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Ghana’s defence held firm to protect the victory. The result sends the Black Queens into the inter-confederation play-offs, keeping alive their hopes of reaching the 2027 World Cup in Brazil and ending a long absence from the global finals.
For Ivory Coast, the defeat ends their campaign and means they will miss out on what would have been a second World Cup appearance.
