NAIROBI, Kenya — The Football Kenya Federation has strongly condemned acts of violence, disorder and hooliganism that erupted after the FKF Super Cup match between Gor Mahia FC and Tusker FC at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
In an official statement issued on 23 August 2026, the Federation expressed deep concern over the scenes that unfolded following the final whistle. FKF made it clear that there is no place for violence, destruction of property, intimidation or any conduct that endangers the safety of players, journalists, match officials, fans, security personnel or members of the public.
The Federation also raised specific concerns about the use of tear gas and other crowd-control measures during the incidents. While acknowledging that security agencies have a duty to maintain order, FKF stressed that such measures must be applied with restraint, professionalism and in full accordance with the law.
FKF confirmed it will work closely with the relevant authorities and football stakeholders to establish the full circumstances surrounding the disturbances. The Federation has pledged to pursue those found responsible for acts of violence or misconduct. Any individual — whether a fan, club official, steward or security officer — found to have breached FKF regulations or the law will face appropriate action through due process.
As part of its investigation, the Federation will review available match footage together with reports from match officials and other stakeholders. The statement underlined that no one is above accountability.
FKF called on fans, security agencies and all football stakeholders to uphold discipline and ensure that matches remain safe and welcoming spaces for everyone. The Federation reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the game and maintaining high standards of conduct at all levels of Kenyan football.
The incidents occurred after the Super Cup encounter between two of Kenya’s most prominent clubs, Gor Mahia and Tusker, at the national stadium. The Federation’s swift response signals its determination to address fan misconduct and security lapses that risk damaging the reputation of the domestic game.
Football Kenya Federation maintains that the safety of all participants and spectators remains a non-negotiable priority. Further updates are expected once the review of evidence and stakeholder consultations have been completed.
