Marie Ngah converted a 19th-minute penalty to give Cameroon the lead, a goal that proved decisive as the Lionesses held firm against late Ghanaian pressure.
The result marks Cameroon’s second consecutive win in the tournament and moves them to the top of Group D with six points, significantly boosting their chances of reaching the quarter-finals. Ghana, who had previously secured a positive result in their opening match, remain in contention but will need a strong performance in their final group fixture.
Ghana created several opportunities, including a disallowed equaliser in the second half, but were unable to break down a disciplined Cameroon defence. The Black Queens have now extended a long-standing pattern of struggling in their second group matches at the WAFCON.
The victory continues Cameroon’s recent dominance in head-to-head meetings with Ghana at this competition, with all four of their previous WAFCON wins over the Black Queens also decided by a single goal.
Both sides will now turn their attention to the final round of group matches as qualification for the knockout stages hangs in the balance.
