KIGALI, Rwanda — The BK Pro League has approved a budget of RWF 1.28 billion (approximately $868,000) for the 2026/27 season, while confirming the participation of Sudanese clubs as guest teams.
The financial package will support the running of the Rwandan top flight in the coming campaign. League officials have also outlined clear guidelines governing the involvement of the Sudanese sides, ensuring the integrity of the competition for domestic clubs is maintained.
Under the approved arrangements, Sudanese clubs will compete as guests. Should one of them finish the season in first place, they will be awarded an Honorary Trophy. The official league championship trophy will instead be presented to the highest-ranked Rwandan club.
Sudanese teams will remain eligible to claim match bonuses and individual awards throughout the season. However, strict limits have been placed on their squad composition. Each side may field a maximum of six non-Sudanese players at any one time and can register only eight foreign players on the match-day sheet.
The decision to include Sudanese clubs comes against the backdrop of ongoing challenges facing football in Sudan. Their presence is expected to add competitive depth and interest to the BK Pro League while providing those teams with regular competitive football.
League authorities have balanced the desire to support the visiting clubs with the need to protect the status of the domestic championship. By reserving the official title for a Rwandan side, the organisers have ensured that the primary focus of the season remains on local teams.
The approved budget of RWF 1.28 billion will cover operational costs, match organisation and other key areas of the competition. Officials believe the financial framework, combined with the guest team regulations, provides a solid foundation for a successful 2026/27 campaign.
Attention now turns to the final preparations ahead of the new season. Clubs will finalise their squads within the stated player limits, while the league administration continues to fine-tune logistical and administrative arrangements for the arrival of the Sudanese sides.
The inclusion of guest teams marks a notable development for Rwandan football and reflects a collaborative approach within East African football circles. With the budget confirmed and the rules clearly defined, the BK Pro League is set for an intriguing and competitive season.
