SOUTH AFRICA — Four matches were played in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, producing a mix of victories and draws as the early-season table continues to take shape.
Kaizer Chiefs strengthened their position at the top of the log with a 2-0 home win over Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium. Luke Baartman opened the scoring in the 63rd minute with his first goal for the club, before substitute Mduduzi Shabalala added a second late on. The result gave the Amakhosi a second successive league victory and sets them up for Saturday’s clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.
AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Kings Park Stadium. Tshepang Moremi gave the Buccaneers an early lead in the seventh minute, but Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya equalised from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. Pirates created the clearer chances but were unable to convert them, leaving both sides with a point.
In the remaining fixtures, Durban City and Golden Arrows played out a goalless stalemate, while Milford FC claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Siwelele.
The results leave Kaizer Chiefs leading the early standings, with Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu also occupying strong positions after the midweek round of matches.
