Giacomo Raspadori gave the home side an early lead in the fifth minute, before Cas Odenthal equalised for Sassuolo just after the hour mark. Nikola Krstović then restored Atalanta’s advantage in the 64th minute to secure the three points.
Atalanta started brightly and took the lead through Raspadori’s early strike. The hosts controlled large periods of the first half and created several opportunities to extend their advantage.
Sassuolo improved after the break and levelled the score through Odenthal in the 54th minute. The visitors threatened to spoil the home side’s opening day, but Atalanta responded quickly.
Krstović found the net ten minutes later to put the Bergamo club back in front. Atalanta managed the closing stages effectively to ensure they started the new campaign with a win.
The result provides a positive start for Atalanta as they look to build on last season’s performances. Raspadori’s early goal and Krstović’s decisive second-half strike proved the difference in a competitive contest.
Sassuolo showed resilience after falling behind and will take encouragement from their response, despite ultimately leaving empty-handed.
Atalanta will now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures with three points on the board, while Sassuolo will look to bounce back quickly after a narrow defeat on the road.
