Arsenal 2-3 Borussia Dortmund: Gunners Fall Short in Emirates Cup

LONDON, England — Borussia Dortmund claimed the Emirates Cup with a 3-2 victory over Arsenal in a lively pre-season friendly at the Emirates Stadium.

The German side took control early and held off a second-half fightback from Mikel Arteta’s team to secure the win.

Samuele Inácio opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing a through ball from Felix Nmecha. Dortmund doubled their advantage before the break when new signing Konstantinos Karetsas produced a stunning long-range strike in the 29th minute.

Arsenal responded after the interval. Ethan Nwaneri reduced the deficit in the 54th minute, finishing from a Christos Tzolis cross. However, Joane Gadou restored Dortmund’s two-goal cushion four minutes later following a chaotic corner that the home defence failed to clear.

Viktor Gyökeres pulled another goal back from the penalty spot in the 69th minute after Tzolis was fouled, but Arsenal could not find an equaliser. A late effort from Gabriel Martinelli was ruled out for offside.

The result leaves Arsenal with consecutive pre-season defeats. Arteta’s side will next face Como at the Emirates before the Community Shield against Manchester City.
