The Kansas City Current forward inspired Malawi to a stunning 3-2 victory over defending champions Nigeria in their Group C opener on Tuesday.
Chawinga scored Malawi’s first-ever goal at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and went on to complete a brace, becoming the first player to score two goals for the Scorchers at the tournament.
Her clinical finishing and all-round display earned her the official match award following the historic result for the debutants.
