The Ministry has informed the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) that it will not cover any part of the compensation linked to the termination of Thiaw’s contract. The full financial responsibility now rests with the FSF should it proceed with the separation.
Thiaw was dismissed by the federation’s executive committee in July following Senegal’s exit at the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The coach had taken charge in late 2024 and guided the Teranga Lions to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title before the disappointing World Cup campaign.
Contracts for Senegal’s national team coaches are typically tripartite agreements involving the coach, the FSF and the state (via the Ministry of Sports as the third-party payer). The Ministry’s stance means the federation alone will have to meet the contractual obligations if the termination is finalised.
