The online attacks followed an incident at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, where the team held a 10-day pre-tournament training camp before relocating to Rabat.
Hotel Incident Clarified
The NFF confirmed that an individual responsible for a theft at the team’s camp was quickly arrested by Moroccan authorities. The perpetrator returned the stolen cash in full and was sentenced to six months in prison.
With the matter resolved through the legal system, the federation expressed disbelief at the subsequent targeting of Okoronkwo.
“The racist abuse and emojis directed at our player make absolutely no sense,” the NFF stated. “Discrimination in any form has no place in football or society.”
The governing body emphasised that the safety, dignity and well-being of its players remain its highest priority.
Squad Remains Focused
Despite the off-field distraction, the NFF said the Super Falcons squad is united and undistracted. The defending champions remain fully concentrated on their Group C opener against Malawi on Tuesday.
