Speaking after Santos’ 4-2 victory over Universidad Central in the Copa Sudamericana on Tuesday, the 34-year-old forward said: “My time with the national team is over. I made history, I was very happy, I gave my blood, my life, I always fought for the yellow jersey, but now I don’t want to anymore.”
The announcement follows Brazil’s round-of-16 exit to Norway at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after which Neymar had already hinted that his international career was finished.
Neymar ends his Brazil career as the country’s all-time leading goalscorer with 80 goals in 130 appearances. He won Olympic gold in 2016 and the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013, and featured in four World Cups.
