Italy Appoint Roberto Mancini as Head Coach and Claudio Ranieri as Technical Director

ROME, Italy — The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has appointed Roberto Mancini as the new head coach of the national team and Claudio Ranieri as technical director.

FIGC president Giovanni Malagò confirmed the dual appointments on Tuesday following a Federal Council meeting. Mancini returns for a second spell in charge of the Azzurri after leading Italy to victory at Euro 2020 during his previous tenure from 2018 to 2023.

Ranieri, the 74-year-old former Leicester City and Roma manager, takes on the role of technical director, becoming a key figure in the federation’s structure. The move comes after the abrupt resignations of Paolo Maldini and Leonardo, who had been in post for only 16 days.

Mancini replaces Gennaro Gattuso, who stepped down in April after Italy failed to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup. The new setup is tasked with rebuilding the side and guiding them towards qualification for the 2030 World Cup, with Euro 2028 along the way.
