According to Spanish journalist Marcos Benito, around €4 million of the fee is due to Real Betis via a sell-on clause. Betis retain a percentage of any future sale after Mendy’s earlier move involving the Seville club.

Multiple reports describe the transfer as being in the advanced stages or “one step away,” with the two clubs aligning on a package in the region of €18–20 million fixed, potentially rising with performance-related bonuses. Some English sources have framed the fee as around £15–17 million plus add-ons.
The 21-year-old centre-back (who can also play left-back) impressed during a loan spell at Rayo Vallecano last season, making 24 La Liga appearances and scoring twice. Rayo subsequently made the move permanent.
