Flying Eagles Start WAFU B U-20 Title Defence with 4-2 Win Over Ghana

YAMOUSSOUKRO, Côte d’Ivoire — Nigeria’s Flying Eagles made a perfect start to their 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship campaign with a convincing 4-2 victory over rivals Ghana in their Group B opener.

The defending champions took control early and never looked back, with goals from Olayemi Ayinla, Oraro Lucky and a brace from Muiz Adeleke.

Early Dominance

Olayemi Ayinla opened the scoring in the 6th minute to give Nigeria the lead. Ghana responded to level the contest, but the Flying Eagles quickly regained the advantage through Oraro Lucky in the 30th minute.

Muiz Adeleke then converted a penalty just before half-time (40th minute) to send Nigeria into the break with a 3-1 lead.

Adeleke Seals the Win

Adeleke completed his brace from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to make the final score 4-2 and secure all three points for the Flying Eagles.

The result gives Nigeria an ideal start in Group B, which also includes Burkina Faso and Togo. The Flying Eagles will next face Burkina Faso on 30 July.

The tournament serves as the qualifying competition for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
