The Elephants dominated the first half and never looked back after racing into a three-goal lead inside 23 minutes at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium.
Early Dominance
Rebecca Elloh opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the seventh minute. Inès Konan then took control, scoring twice in quick succession — first in the 14th minute and again in the 23rd — to put the West Africans firmly in command by half-time.
Côte d’Ivoire continued to press after the break. N’Sira Ouédraogo added a fourth goal just before the hour mark to complete the scoring for the winners.
Burkina Faso pulled one back through Adama Congo in the 60th minute, but it proved little more than a consolation as the Elephants maintained control for the remainder of the match.
Group B Picture
The result gives Côte d’Ivoire an early three points and a positive goal difference in Group B, which also includes South Africa and Tanzania. Burkina Faso, making only their second appearance at the tournament, will look to bounce back in their next fixture.
