The talented forward returned to camp ahead of Nigeria’s highly anticipated international friendly clash against Portugal, boosting the morale of the Super Eagles squad as preparations intensify for the encounter.
Chukwueze had earlier travelled to Nigeria to attend the funeral rites of his late mother, Mrs Sarah Chinyere Chukwueze, who passed away earlier this year after a brief illness. The burial ceremony, held in Umuahia, Abia State, attracted family members, friends, football personalities, and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Following the emotional ceremony, the AC Milan star has now returned to national team duty, joining his teammates in Lisbon as the Super Eagles continue preparations for the international friendly against Portugal.
His arrival is a major boost for Nigeria, with the 27-year-old expected to play a key role in the attacking setup of the team. Known for his pace, dribbling ability, and creativity on the wings, Chukwueze remains one of the most important players in the Super Eagles squad.
The Super Eagles camp has continued to welcome players over the past few days, with preparations gathering momentum ahead of the high-profile fixture.
Meanwhile, messages of support and condolences had continued to pour in for Chukwueze and his family after the death of his mother, including tributes from the Nigeria Football Federation and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Nigeria will hope to put up a strong performance against Portugal as the team continues to build chemistry and fine-tune tactics ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.
Chukwueze’s return not only strengthens the squad but also highlights his commitment and dedication to the national team despite the difficult personal moment he recently experienced.
