Enabulele Charges Benin Queens to Go for Glory in Crucial Clash....
Former Nigeria Women Football League champions Edo Queens will face in-form Abia Angels on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in a crucial Matchday 3 encounter of the ongoing NWFL Super Six at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The highly anticipated showdown is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 AM, with both sides aiming to strengthen their push for the league title and possible CAF Women’s Champions League qualification.
For Edo Queens, the clash represents a must-win encounter after a mixed start to their Super Six campaign. The Benin City side bounced back strongly from their opening 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa Amazons by producing a commanding 4-1 victory over FC Robo Queens in their second game.
The emphatic win restored confidence within the camp and revived their hopes of competing for the championship crown.
However, they now face one of the surprise packages of the tournament in Abia Angels, who have emerged as giant killers in Port Harcourt. The Aba-based side stunned former champions Rivers Angels with a 1-0 victory after previously holding defending champions Bayelsa Queens to a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture.
With four points from two matches, Abia Angels currently sit second on the Super Six table and have proven they are capable of troubling any opponent.
Speaking ahead of the decisive encounter, Edo Queens captain Deborah Odiagbe expressed confidence that her side has what it takes to overcome the challenge posed by Abia Angels.
“Abia Angels shouldn’t be a team to give Edo Queens sleepless nights. However, there will be no complacency. We are going to take them fire for fire, strength for strength and speed for speed. Victory is the only thing we need tomorrow,” she said.
The current Super Six standings see Nasarawa Amazons leading the table with six points from two matches. Abia Angels occupy second place with four points, while Edo Queens and Rivers Angels both have three points each. Defending champions Bayelsa Queens sit fifth with three points, while FC Robo Queens remain bottom without a point.
Meanwhile, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has continued to rally support for the team since the start of the competition.
The sports administrator, who has stayed with the squad throughout the tournament, praised the players for their impressive victory over FC Robo Queens and urged them to maintain the momentum against Abia Angels.
Addressing the team ahead of Wednesday’s clash, Enabulele charged the players to approach the game with the mentality of champions.
“The game is yours. Go out there and deliver. Then come and get your prizes. I am here with you and some other top government officials are also coming to support you,” he encouraged.
With the title race gradually heating up, Wednesday’s encounter could play a decisive role in shaping Edo Queens’ ambitions of reclaiming the NWFL crown and returning to continental football.
