In a contest packed with tension, momentum swings, and late-game drama, the Knicks survived a furious Spurs comeback to secure a massive 2-0 series lead heading back to New York for Game 3.
The game was decided in the final seconds after Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson calmly knocked down the go-ahead free throw with just 9.5 seconds remaining, following a costly turnover by Spurs sensation Victor Wembanyama.
San Antonio still had one final chance to steal the win, but Wembanyama’s last-second jumper narrowly missed the target as the buzzer sounded, sending Knicks fans into celebration mode.
Karl-Anthony Towns delivered another huge performance, finishing with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Brunson and Mikal Bridges each added 20 points for New York.
Despite struggling offensively for stretches, Brunson once again showed why he has become the heartbeat of this Knicks team, producing clutch plays when it mattered most.
The Spurs mounted an incredible late comeback after trailing by double digits in the fourth quarter, but New York’s composure under pressure proved decisive. The Knicks have now won 13 consecutive playoff games, continuing one of the most dominant postseason runs in modern NBA history.
The victory also places the Knicks in elite company. They have become just the third team in NBA history to win the first two games of the Finals on the road — a statistic that heavily favors eventual championship winners.
For the Spurs, the defeat was heartbreaking. Wembanyama responded strongly after criticism from Game 1, producing an impressive all-around display, but his late turnover and missed game-winner ultimately defined the night for San Antonio.
Now, the series shifts to the iconic Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks will host their first NBA Finals home game in decades with an opportunity to move within one win of a historic championship.
With momentum fully on their side and the city of New York dreaming again, the Knicks are suddenly just two victories away from ending their long wait for NBA glory.
The Knicks’ dramatic Game 2 victory keeps the basketball world locked onto this Finals series as it heads to New York.
