NPFL Relocates Plateau United’s Remaining Home Matches Over Security Concerns

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has taken the significant decision to relocate all remaining home fixtures of Plateau United to an alternative venue for the rest of the 2025/26 season due to ongoing security challenges in Plateau State.

The league’s Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, confirmed the move, stating that the board prioritised the safety and welfare of players, officials, and visiting teams above all else.

Official Statement

Speaking on the relocation, Elegbeleye said:

“The board had to act as we approach the final stretch of the season. While every match is important, we are equally concerned about the safety of teams. We want matches played in a conducive environment that allows players to perform at their best, while we hope for a return to normalcy in Plateau State.”

He added that the decision was made after thorough consultations and assessment of the security situation in the state.

Impact on Plateau United

Plateau United currently sit in 9th position on the NPFL table. Although they are not in immediate danger of relegation, they remain close enough to the drop zone that any drop in form could prove costly in the final weeks of the campaign.

The relocation means the club will now host their remaining home games at a neutral or alternative venue (yet to be officially announced), which could affect home advantage and fan support in the decisive phase of the season.

This is the second major security-related decision affecting NPFL clubs this season, following earlier concerns with other teams in volatile regions.

The league has assured all stakeholders that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and hopes that normalcy returns soon so that Plateau United can resume playing at their traditional home ground.

A difficult but necessary decision for player safety. What are your thoughts on the relocation of Plateau United’s home games? Drop your comments below!
