Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has suffered a thigh knock during training and will miss Tuesday’s international friendly against Jordan.
The Udinese shot-stopper picked up the injury in camp in Antalya, Turkey, dealing a blow to head coach Eric Chelle’s goalkeeping options ahead of the March 31 fixture.
Okoye had started Nigeria’s previous friendly against Iran and was expected to feature again, but the thigh problem now rules him out. He will be replaced in the squad by one of the remaining keepers — likely Francis Uzoho (Omonia) or Adeleye Adebayo (Volos).
Impact on the Super Eagles
This is the latest setback in the goalkeeping department for Nigeria, following earlier withdrawals and squad adjustments. Okoye’s absence means Chelle must reshuffle his plans for the Jordan game, which serves as important preparation as the Super Eagles build toward future competitions, including 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The 26-year-old German-born Nigerian has been in solid form for Udinese in Serie A this season and was recalled to the national team setup after missing the 2025 AFCON.
Nigeria will now rely on the remaining goalkeepers to step up as they face Jordan in what promises to be a competitive friendly.
Get well soon, Maduka Okoye!
